Danish design brand Hay comes to Selfridges

There are exciting things afoot at Selfridges. Tomorrow morning sees a 124 m2 (1,300 sq ft) Hay pop-up shop opening on the 4th floor of the department store on London’s Oxford Street. The pop-up shop will be operated by Skandium, the leading UK retailer of modern Scandinavian design which currently has its own department in Selfridges.

Hay is the fastest growing furniture brand in Denmark, producing excellent designs, at affordable prices, and it's easy to see why.

Walking into Hay's signature store in Copenhagen, with its towering ceilings, stunning furniture and pared down, Scandinavian styling you can’t help but feel like you’ve been welcomed home. The wide range of furniture, rugs, bed linen, cushions, office essentials and home accessories on offer effortlessly combine bold palettes with pared down, Scandinavian, no-nonsense functionality.

Established in 2002, Hay operates in the field between architecture and fashion, working with unusual colours, surfaces and shapes. As you well know I've had my eye on the modular mags sofa pictured since my last trip to Copenhagen. Upholstered in fabric from Danish textile company Kvadrat, it seamlessly blends function with luxury.

The colourful plisse folders featured below are especially eye-catching. Accordion pleated, the document wallets are available in striking neon yellow, orange and coral in a stunning ombre fade.

Hay attracts some of the best and most well-know of the new generation of Danish and international designers: Louis Campbell, Jakob Wagner, Poul Christiansen and Boris Berlin. I'd recommend heading to Selfridges to take a look, you definitely won't be disappointed.
