The Poundshop LDF 2011 Pop-Up Shop

If you’re in London this weekend you might want to make your way over to Greatorex Street E1 and pay a visit to The Poundshop, a pop-up shop that sells beautiful design-led items at wallet friendly prices. Orders are placed Argos style, just take an itemised sheet of paper, tick off the things you want, pay at the counter and nip downstairs to get your goodies!

The Poundshop is a platform for designers to sell designer goods under the strict brief that the product is to be sold for £1, with the exception this year, that there are two new price bands of £5 & £10.

Pick up colourful hand printed wrapping paper sets with crepe ribbon from Hazel Stark, up-cycled cutlery from Use Development Organisation, geometric monochrome tea towels from Bam, paper boat Float Teas from Gail Catchpole and reflective arm/leg bands from Alex Better, not to mention all the other goodies on offer from the 47 designers taking part.

An idea founded by Design collective Household and illustrator Sara Melin, the very first pop-up Poundshop was launched back in April 2010 with 42 designers taking part. The collective followed up with a second shop during London Design Week 2010 with 57 designers. A further 70 designers participated in the third pop-up shop last Christmas at Somerset House.

This weekend, in a new shop designed by Fabien Capello, as part of High Street 2012, they’re at it again with a great selection of products ranging from stationary and textiles, to art and kitchenware.

Plus this year they’ve launched a new online pop-up web shop, which will be open for two weeks, spreading the design bargains far and wide.

The Poundshop is open from 16th-19th September 12.00-6.00pm, 12-14 Greatorex Street, EC1 5NF, nearest tube Aldgate East.
